The photogrphers of swiss-image.ch enjoyed this year Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum more then before. Some of them have used for the first time in their professional live the new photographic workflow Remote Picture Editing. As offiical photographers of the World Economic Forum the pros of swiss-image.ch faced a difficult job with over 230 session, more then 40 head of states and a lot of feature pictures. Usually this job is extremally stressfull. Not this year! The photographers had more time to wait for the right moment. Thanks to the new wireless workflow Remote Picture Editing, Canon EOS-1 Ds Mk-III and 5D Mk-II digital cameras with attached wireless transmitters. The photographers used a network of about 270 hotspots in the entire Congress Center of Davos and the special programme Idruna Remote Editing Software (IRES) of US wiz Paul Nolan. As soon a good picture was taken, the photographer released it on the camera and the data where sent by WLAN to FTP servers at the editing office or picked up by the picture editors from the IRES server. So only the thumbnails had to be transmitted from the photographer and browsed by the editor on a regular webbrowser. This workflow was very fast and allowed swiss-image.ch to bring the up-to-date press pictures online much faster then with a regular workflow. The delay of an image was from one to five minutes after the pictures was shot. In some cases a delay time of 40 seconds was possible. This means a lot of important photos of the Wef have been almost live available for the media the Forum's web team.
